Pirates: Quest For Davy Jones' Gold

Pirates: Quest For Davy Jones' Gold is the board game version of the popular Pirates of the Spanish Main tabletop game. It is produced by WizKids.

It represents a simplification of the tabletop game, while retaining most of the crucial elements of gameplay from it. It can be played by two to four players.

Players

Unlike the Tabletop game, where it is possible to collect different fleets by buying packs from stores, Pirates: Quest For Davy Jones' Gold comes with set fleets comprising a four-mast and a three-mast ship in each of four different colours, representing those of four captains; Blackheart (Red - The Blackheart and The Bloody Sword), Calico Cat (Green - The Treasure Hunter and The Doubloon), Jack Hawkins (Blue - BlackHawk and Night Hunter) and Wesley (Yellow - The Dolphin and The Mermaid).

In the four player variant, each player takes turns to pick a captain, each of whom has his or her own special ability, such as Calico Cat's Ships that can dock at and explore an island all in one go, rather than taking two turns to do so. They also get that captain's two ships.

With three players, one captain is excluded. In the two player version, each player controls two captains and four ships.

Most of the game's contents are compatible with the regular Tabletop game.

Playmat

Also included in the box is a 28-x-28–inch (70 cm x 70 cm) playmat showing seven islands and four "cursed zones" you can be sent to by Davy Jones. Unlike the collectable version, this "board" is fixed every time you play instead of individual islands being set up on the tabletop at the beginning of each game. Each "Cursed Zone" can only be escaped by rolling certain values on the dice, either set by the game or chosen by your opponents and failure to escape damages your ships (i.e. you must lose a mast)

Monsters

Two sea monsters (Kraken and Sea Serpent) and five crew/treasure cards are also included, with Davy Jones appearing in order to hinder the players and it is only by defeating Davy Jones and obtaining his treasure that the game can be completed. The winner, as always, is the player who obtains the most gold from the Wild Islands and returns it to his or her own island.
