Pierre Dutot

Pierre Dutot (born 11 June 1946) is a French classical trumpeter and professor at the Conservatoire de Lyon.

Life

First prize in trumpet at the Conservatoire de Paris, Dutot could have limited himself to a brilliant career as a concert performer and teacher at the Conservatoire de Lyon, which his national and international reputation acquired through his many European performances would have ensured.

This was without counting on a strong, powerful and generous personality with an uncommon friendliness. A former soloist with the Orchestre National de Lyon, which he reluctantly left to face the many requests to which he was subjected, his generosity led him to lend his talent to many ensembles where his brilliance was matched only by his virtuosity. Passion and generosity served as the driving force behind his pedagogical and instrumental career.

The Hexagon brass ensemble[1] is the most brilliant example of this. Talent, passion and originality recognized on many international stages, a renowned pedagogical experience, an original and unpublished repertoire, all this makes this formation a unique permanent ensemble in France and Europe that regularly represents the French brass school throughout the world.

The ministry assigned him a trumpet teacher training centre. He is regularly invited as a jury to French conservatories and national and international competitions.

Dutot, who was a 22-year-old teacher at the Conservatoire de Lyon, is one of the most sought-after teachers of the French Brass School, as his students trust his success in national and international competitions. Among them, Pascal Clarhaut, David Guerrier (first prize at the ARD International Music Competition in 2003, André Henry[2] (first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1996), etc.).

His renowned teaching methods attract many students. In addition to his French students, eight nationalities are represented in his class of the Conservatoire de Bordeaux. Maurice André sends young international talents to perfect their skills in his class:

I congratulate this great artist pedagogue and strongly encourage him to continue his action which honours the French brass school.
