Peavey Mart

Peavey Mart is a Canadian retailer with its headquarters in Red Deer, Alberta. Until July 2016, the parent company, Peavey Industries LP, owned and operated 34 Peavey Mart stores (and two smaller stores under another brand) in Western Canada, with a distribution centre located at the head office in Red Deer, Alberta.

In July 2016, Peavey Industries LP bought controlling interest in the 51 store chain TSC Stores L.P. (Canada), increasing the number of stores under its control and gaining a distribution centre in London, Ontario.[1]

About

Peavey Industries LP operates the Peavey Mart stores which offer agricultural and hardware supplies, workwear, houseware, pet supplies, gardening accessories, and automotives parts. The company slogan is "Hardware and a whole lot more". For most of its existence, Peavey Mart served only Western Canada.[2] A subsidiary of Peavey Company of Minneapolis at one time, with company roots dating back to over 100 years, the Peavey Mart chain corporately known as Peavey Industries Ltd., and now as Peavey Industries LP, was sold to the management group in 1984. Since that time, Peavey Mart has continued to remain 100% Western Canadian owned.

The company's head office is located in Red Deer, Alberta, including a 150,000 square foot distribution centre. The corporate chain's Peavey Mart stores are located across Western Canada and range in size from 10,000 to 35,000 square feet.

In 2013, Peavey Mart announced they would be adding electric car charging stations to all of their locations,[3] By late 2016, free charging stations were available at many of the stores; specifics are provided on the Peavey Mart web site. The target is to eventually have charging stations at all of its stores.[4]

Peavey Mart has a team of over 700 employees. In 2015, Peavey Industries was named one of Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures.[5]

TSC Stores L.P. (Canada) buyout

In July 2016, Peavey Mart bought a controlling interest in TSC Stores Limited (Canada) from Birch Hill Equity Partners; this was intended to lead to full ownership over the following year.[6][7] With TSC's 51 retail stores added in, Peavey Mart will control 87 stores in total, as well as a second distribution centre located in London, Ontario. TSC's two Manitoba stores were rebranded as Peavey Marts. During the transition period (until full ownership is acquired), Doug Anderson, President of Peavey Industries was to act as Executive Chairman of TSC; Darryl Jenkins would continue running day-to-day operations as President.[8][9] TSC's Ontario stores will continue to operate under the TSC label.[10]

Stores

In 2015, the Peavey Mart store count reached 35, across BC, AB, SK, and MB; by late 2016 that had increased to 37 according to the company's Web site, with the rebranding of the two TSC stores in Manitoba. The original 35 stores are located in the following communities.

• Assiniboia, SK • Camrose, AB • Dawson Creek, BC • Estevan, SK • Grande Prairie, AB • High River, AB • Humboldt, SK • Kamloops, BC • Kindersley, SK • Lacombe, AB • Leduc, AB • Lethbridge, AB • Lloydminster, AB • Medicine Hat, AB • Moose Jaw, SK • North Battleford, SK • Peace River, AB • Prince Albert, SK • Red Deer, AB • Regina, SK • Saskatoon, SK • Sherwood Park, AB • Spruce Grove, AB • St. Paul, AB • Stettler, AB • Strathmore, AB • Swan River, MB • Swift Current, SK • Vegreville, AB • Westlock, AB • Wetaskiwin, AB • Weyburn, SK • Winnipeg Nairn, MB • Winnipeg Pembina, MB • Yorkton, SK

MainStreet Hardware

Peavey Industries LP opened a smaller version of Peavey Mart in Q4, 2012. This store does not offer a full line of products that you would find at Peavey Mart's, especially the products of the Agriculture department so the smaller concept stores were rebranded.

Currently there are three MainStreet Hardware locations, in Blackfalds, Ponoka and Vermilion, AB.[11]
