Paul Chester Kainen

Paul Chester Kainen is an American mathematician, an adjunct associate professor of mathematics and director of the Lab for Visual Mathematics at Georgetown University.[1] Kainen is the author of a popular book on the four color theorem,[2] and is also known for his work on book embeddings of graphs.[3]

Biography

Kainen received his Bachelor of Arts degree from George Washington University in 1966 and was awarded the Ruggles Prize for Excellence in Mathematics. He went on to get his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1970 with Peter Hilton as his thesis advisor.[4] Kainen's father was the American artist Jacob Kainen.

gollark: How would that work? In my experience crystal growing mostly involves waiting around. Just show "here's a solution" and some of the in-the-middle bits, and then some crystals?
gollark: I mean, people already talk about them a bit, just not in a dedicated channel.
gollark: I'm pretty sure very directional antennas are a thing.
gollark: Wouldn't that just be... a (probably illegally high powered) FM transmitter?
gollark: I'd say it's Discord's fault - assuming this is true of course, I haven't seen it tested - for implementing such an awful system.
