On May 24, 1955, Cronin was appointed as Prelate of Ozamis in the Philippines. Concurrently, he was the Titular Bishop of Ubaza.[5]Upon the retirement Archbishop James Hayes on October 13, 1970, he was appointed as Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro in 1971.[6]
