Technical Specifications for Interoperability

The Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI) are specifications drafted by the European Railway Agency and adopted in a Decision by the European Commission, to ensure the interoperability of the trans-European rail system.[1] The interoperability issues apply to the lines within the Trans-European Rail network. The European Railway Agency regularly publishes a summary of the status of the TSIs.[2]

Scope

TSIs are related to

  • infrastructure,
  • energy,
  • rolling stock,
  • control-command and signalling,
  • maintenance and operation

and have been in force since 1 December 2002.

Persons with reduced mobility

The Persons with reduced mobility - technical specifications for interoperability (PRM-TSI) relates to accessibility of the European Union's rail system for persons with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility. It was published on 18 November 2014 under reference 1300/2014/EU.[3] The PRM-TSI applies only to heavy rail systems.

Light rail systems are covered by different legislation. In the United Kingdom this is the Rail Vehicle Accessibility (Non-Interoperable Rail System) Regulations 2010 (RVAR 2010).
