Orquesta SCC

Orquesta SCC, formerly known as Orquesta Salsa Con Conciencia, is an eleven-piece salsa dura orchestra based in New York City.[1] The band was created by Jose Vazquez-Cofresi and Edwin N. Perez in 2013 after their former band, La Excelencia, broke up in 2012.

History

La Excelencia ran from 2005 until 2012. The band released three albums and toured internationally before breaking up.

In late 2012, Edwin Perez spoke with Jose Vazquez-Cofresi about putting a band back together, which they did under the name Orquesta SCC. In January 2013 Orquesta SCC began recording the album Renacmiento.[2][3] The name Renacimiento is a name meaning both "rebirth" and "Renaissance".[1] The album was released in October 2013[1] and received praise from Le Monde.[4]

In 2015, Orquesta SCC announced that they would be doing a world tour named The Kings of Salsa Dura. Lincoln Center (Midsummer Night Swing) has been quoted saying; "These native New Yorkers take up the Fania All-Stars torch and show dancers why they are quickly being hailed as The new Kings of Salsa Dura".[5]
