Oriental Star Agencies

Oriental Star Agencies is a British based record label, based in the Balsall Heath area of Birmingham. Some of the artists introduced by the label include Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Malkit Singh, Alam Lohar and Bally Sagoo.[1]

The label was founded in 1970 by Abdul Ghani, his son Dr Abdul Mohsin Mian and Muhammad Ayub, who had previously owned a record store with Abdul Ghani importing Indian and Pakistani music into the United Kingdom.[2] In 1969 Ayub was approached by members of two local bhangra bands – Bhujhangy Group and Anari Sangeet Party – to record their performances, and the success of the following recordings led him to establish the label.[2] It was confirmed in January 2017 that Oriental Star Agencies would be closing their doors to the public and wind down the business which would see the business totally closed by mid February 2017.
