Institution of order

The order was instituted in the year 1985 by the civilian-military administration that ruled the Republic of Uruguay. After the transition from the civilian-military administration in 1985, the order fell into disuse. Some sources claim that the order had one single grade; that of a Grand Cross. Others state that there are crosses of a Commander and a silver cross of a Knight in existence.[1]
