Ontario Arts Foundation
The Ontario Arts Foundation is a non-governmental[1] not for profit organization[2] established in 1991[1] under the Ontario Corporations Act[2] to encourage and facilitate private giving to the arts in Ontario, Canada. The group is distinct from the Ontario Arts Council,[1] which administers public funding for Ontario artists and arts organizations.[2]
The Foundation assists the Ontario Arts Council by assisting with private funding of the arts and oversees 275 endowments[3] established by individuals, foundations, corporations and arts organizations. In 2013, it had assets of $56 million[4] and disbursements of over $2.5 million[3] using a staff of two and a board of 12.[1] The foundation awards the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Award.[5]
