Ompora

Ompora is a municipality area of district Budgam. It is 9 km from the city centre, Lal Chowk. It is located on the Srinagar-Budgam road, roughly 3 km from Airport road. It is highly populated area of Budgam district. Ompora is the Sunni area of Budgam town. It is just 2.5 km from district headquarter, Budgam. The adjoining villages around Ompora town are Narkara, bathara, Humhama, Sheikhpura, wadipora, reshipora, Bemina, sepdan.

The Budgam railway station is in the northeastern part of Ompora. It is the biggest railway station in the Kashmir division. In the southwest of Ompora, karewas are present. On these karewas, one housing colony has been established where many bureaucrats live. Ompora is known for its soil quality throughout the valley. Ompora has also one big ground or Eidgah present. Ompora has one boys high school, one girls high school and one middle school for boys and girls. Spring Buds high school of Ompora is one of the leading private school of budgam. The mohallas and colonies of Ompora are: Parray angan, Osman Abad,Khar mohalla, kharpora, bazar mohalla, dhobi mohalla,Muqhdam Mohalla,Railway colony, puj mohalla, Wani mohalla, pazalpora, Sayed Abad,Housing colony,Chinar colony, poshbagh, kalliwani angan. Ompora has presence of two ziyarat (Asthan). There is also a large mosque known as khulfa-i-raashideen mosque, named after the four rightly guided Caliphs of Mohammed 1. Abubakar, 2. Umar, 3. Usman, 4 Ali. One Ahl hadith mosque is also present where jumah khutba is regularly given by Parvaiz Qureshi Sahab. Ompora has one sub district hospital where doctors are available for 24 hours. A big chunk of land has been acquired by state government to establish an industrial estate,National institute of Fashion technology( NiFT) and a hospital for labour's at Ompora. District police lines Budgam is also situated at Ompora. A private hospital named as Ibn-Sina hospital is located closer to the Budgam railway station. This hospital is the first private hospital of the district. It is equipped with modern facilities of healthcare. This area was hot bed of clashes during the 2016 summer unrests in Kashmir. Most of the injuries in the Budgam district during 2016 intifada was reported from ompora. This town is one of the most volatile areas of Kashmir in case of stone pelting, protests. The people of ompora are very passionate about cricket and football but there is no ground in the area. Warsi football club is the most famous football team of ompora. Ompora is also famous for its hospitality.ompora also have some emerging talent on YouTube like bloggers and film makers like digital kashmir production. Ompora has one oldest medical shop famously known as wani medicate running since 1975.
