Omor Faruk Chowdhury

Sheikh Omor Faruque (শেখ ওমর ফারুক) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Member of Parliament from Rajshahi-1.

Early life

Faruque was born on 3 March 1963. He has a LLB degree.[1]

Career

Faruque was elected to Parliament from Rajshahi-1 in 2008 and on 5 January 2014 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate.[2] He was sent a show cause notice by the Bangladesh Election Commission on April 2016 for violating electoral code by supporting candidates in local elections.[3] He is a former State Minister of Industries. He was accused by a Prothom Alo report on 15 January 2018 of being involved in the drug trade.[4] He denied the allegations in a rejoinder to the Prothom Alo. The Prothom Alo replied the report was based on a report by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Drug Trade in Rajshahi.[5]
