Nymet Rowland

Nymet Rowland is a small village, and parish of the same name, in central Devon, England, north of Dartmoor. It takes part of its name from "Nymet", the old name for the nearby River Yeo.[1] It is located just to the west of Lapford and south of Nymet Bridge, within the Mid Devon local authority area. Historically it formed part of Winkleigh Hundred; today the North Tawton hundred. It falls within the Cadbury Deanery for ecclesiastical purposes.[2]

Nymet Rowland Church

Description

Nymet Rowland has a 15th-century church (St. Bartholomew). Traces of the 12th-century church remain in the S. doorway, and in the crude font.

History

Nymet Rowland achieved brief prominence in the 1870s as the home of the Cheritons (nicknamed by the media the "North Devon savages"), a farming family living under primitive conditions whose lifestyle caused national outrage.[3][4]

gollark: ```Brute Dragons are among the larger Comrade breeds. They prefer to live in solitude or small groups, nesting in high, mountainous regions. The only time they openly seek the company of others is during the mating season, when males will fight for the attention of females. The thunderous crash of Brute Dragons butting horns against each other in competition for mates can be heard nearly a mile away.Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of Comrade exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in Comrades is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of Comrades grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, Comrades and humans coexist peacefully.```
gollark: v0, which just replaces dragon with Comrade, is a great success.
gollark: Okay, the replacing thing is kind of hard.
gollark: I'll just make a userscript for it now.
gollark: Let me just do that.
