History
The parish was established in 1805.[1]
The current temple was built in 1860, severely damaged during the siege of Paysandú (1864-1865) and rebuilt afterwards. It is dedicated to saint Benedict the Moor and the Virgin of the Rosary.[1]
In 1906 a Walcker organ was inaugurated.[2]
In 1949, Pope Pius XII proclaimed it basilica minor.[3]
Currently, a fundraising committee is advocating its refurbishment, understanding that, apart from its great religious and historic significance, this temple is also the venue of important cultural events.[4]
gollark: Anything above 10 runs into impracticality central.
gollark: Well, if you don't go to 56 generations it should be fine.
gollark: 1 for a CB one, 2 for a 2G one, 4 for a 3G one, 8 for a 4G one...
gollark: The number of required CB dragons increases by a factor of two with each generation. Unless you inbreed.
gollark: Ah. Well. I think my 72 quadrillion dragons figure applies to your plan, then.
