North Longford Flying Column

The North Longford Flying Column was a unit of the Old IRA in the Irish War of Independence, drawing its membership from 3 North Longford Battalions of the Irish Volunteers and was led by Sean Mac Eoin.

Membership

Membership was local to the Parishes of Clonbroney, Drumlish, Killoe, Colmcille, Granard, Mullinaghta and Abbeylara. Later some men from the South Cavan area joined its ranks.

Members of the North Longford Flying Column were: Tom Brady, James Joseph Brady, Patrick Callaghan, Séamus Conway, Patrick Cooke, Frank Davis, Séan Duffy, Thomas Earley, Séamus Farrelly, Patrick Finnegan, Larry Geraghty, Michael Gormley, Hugh Hourican, Jack Hughes, Michael Kenny, Patrick Lynch, John McDowell, Sean Mac Eoin (O/C), James MacEoin, Frank Martin, John Moore, Michael Mulligan, Michael F. Reynold, Séan Sexton, Jim Sheeran, Michael Treacy, and Ned Tynan.

Engagements

Its most famous engagement was the Clonfin ambush. Also further engagements at Ballinalee, Terlicken, Ballybrein and Fyhora
