Nokia OZO

Nokia OZO is an advanced camera, by Nokia which is able to record stereoscopic (3D) 360-degree video. The device was announced in July 2015 and first released in November 2015.[1][2]

The OZO is made of aluminium alloy and contains eight lenses and microphones which combine record stereoscopic (3D) 360-degree video and audio. Each lens has a 195-degree field of view, shooting at 30 frames per second.[3] The camera is aimed at professional filmmakers, like Disney, which started to use the OZO for filmmaking in April 2016.[4]

The audio technology on the OZO, featuring binaural 360° audio capture and headphone + Bluetooth playback, was added to the Nokia 8 smartphone in 2017. In 2018 it also came to the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. In 2019, it was used on the Oppo Reno, making it the first non-Nokia phone with the technology.[5] In 2020, the Nokia 8.3 5G was introduced with the technology.

Nokia announced the end of production of the OZO headset in October 2017, citing a "slower-than-expected" virtual reality market,[6] but continuing to support and update the software platform.[7] In January 2018, Nokia licensed the OZO Live software to a new start-up called Imeve created by former employees working on OZO to continue development of the software.[8]
