Nixon v. Warner Communications

Nixon v. Warner Communications, 435 U.S. 589 (1978), was a case in which the SCOTUS held that neither the common law right of access to judicial records, nor the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantee of freedom of the press, nor the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantee of a public trial compelled the release of tapes from the custody of the District Court.
