Career

Long graduated in Infectious Medicine from Hanoi Medical University in 1995 and received his doctors degree in 2003. He received the title of Professor in 2013.[1] Between 2005 and 2011, he oversaw HIV/AIDS prevention at the Ministry of Health and from 2011 to 2018 he served as Deputy Minister of Health, before being appointed Deputy Director of the Central Propaganda Department. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with his decades of experience in the field of infectious diseases, he returned as Deputy Minister of Health and since July 2020 as Minister of Health. [2][3][4] He has been credited as one of the brains behind Vietnam's widely praised success in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]
