Nestor Forster

Nestor José Forster Júnior (born 10 April 1963) is a Brazilian diplomat, currently serving as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim in the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

He was later nominated by President Jair Bolsonaro as Brazilian Ambassador to the United States, after Eduardo Bolsonaro withdrew from his nomination.[1][2]

Biography

Before he was designated to the Brazilian Embassy, Forster was ahead of the Brazilian Consulates in New York and Hartford.[1] Close to the Brazilian writer Olavo de Carvalho and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ernesto Araújo,[3] Nestor entered Bolsonaro's radar for the office of Ambassador by expressing his conservative values, such as his pro-life position, and sharing the same thinking as the President about the Amazon fire. He also wrote a letter to disprove Foreign Policy article "Who Will Invade Brazil to Save the Amazon?".[4] Nestor Forster worked for the then Attorney General of the Union Gilmar Mendes, current Justice of the Supreme Federal Court, as Chief of Staff.[5]

Forster had his hearing before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee on 13 February 2020, where his indication was unanimously approved. The floor voting is expect to happen on 14 February.[6]

In March 2020 he was tested positive for coronavirus.[7]
