Political career

He began his political career as a tehsil nazim from Malakwal in 2001.[3][4]

He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency NA-64 (Sargodha-I) as a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Pakistani general election, 2008.[5][3][6][4] He received 65,628 and defeated Muhammad Farooq Baha-ul-Haq Shah, a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N).[7] In the same election, he ran for the seat of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from Constituency PP-119 (Mandi Bahuddin-IV) as an independent candidate, but was unsuccessful. He received 316 votes and lost the seat to Waseem Afzal Gondal, a candidate of PPP.[7] He served as the chairman of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee from April 2012 to March 2013.[8]

He ran for the seat of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-64 (Sargodha-I) as a candidate of PPP in Pakistani general election, 2013[9] but was unsuccessful.[10][4] He received 67,212 votes and lost the seat to Muhammad Amin Ul Hasnat Shah.[11]

In October 2017, he resigned from the post of Secretary General of PPP Punjab.[12]

In April 2018, he quit PPP and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).[4][2]

He ran for the seat of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-88 (Sargodha-I) as a candidate of PTI in Pakistani general election, 2018 but was unsuccessful.[13]

On 15 January 2019, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Chan as his spokesperson,[14] in honorary capacity. The same day, he was also appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Imran Khan on Parliamentary Coordination, in honorary capacity.[8] On August 23, 2019, media sources claimed that he resigned from his position, but the Pakistani government denied the rumors.

One of his audio call with his close friend ( Mukhtar) was leaked in which he openly confessed the failures of his govt for tackling the Covid 19 disease. According to him as per internal and secrets reports , their were about 1000 people dying every day by this pandemic, which govt was intentionally hiding from public.

gollark: What about a zip file which extracts itself and works as a script for extracting itself too?
gollark: ```pythondef why(regex, string): l = [] while True: l.append(l) ```
gollark: I think the segfault-causing is pretty good though.
gollark: Hmm, perhaps.
gollark: ```pythondef find_all_subclasses(cls, subs=[]): for subclass in cls.__subclasses__(): subs.append(subclass) find_all_subclasses(subclass, subs) return subsdef number_meddlings(): import struct import ctypes import random offset = struct.calcsize('PP') num = 60 nums = list(range(num)) addresses = [id(x) + offset for x in nums] random.shuffle(nums) for a, n in zip(addresses, nums): ctypes.c_ssize_t.from_address(a).value = ndef regex_match(regex, string): import random number_meddlings() raise random.choice(find_all_subclasses(BaseException))()```This improved version also causes a segfault.
