It was plotted from Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions air photos taken in 1965, and was named by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia for P.J. Moonie, a radio operator at Mawson Station in 1967 and 1969, and a member of the Prince Charles Mountains survey party in 1969.[1]
