Mookuthi Amman

Mookuthi Amman is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language Hindu devotional film directed by RJ Balaji and N. J. Saravanan. The former also wrote the script and stars as the male lead, while Nayanthara stars as the title character. The film was scheduled to release in May 2020, but postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mookuthi Amman is the directorial debut of RJ Balaji, while N. J. Saravanan serves as co-director;[6] Balaji also wrote the script.[7] The film was produced by Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Films International, photographed by Dinesh Krishnan, and edited by R. K. Selva. Stunt Silva served as the action choreographer.[6] Principal photography began in November 2019,[8] although Nayanthara joined the sets only in December.[2] Filming wrapped in February 2020.[7]

Themes

Balaji described Mookuthi Amman as having "all the elements that were there in the devotional films that we grew up watching. It will be a nostalgic trip, but there will also be a takeaway that is relevant, especially in this present times" without satirising the genre.[1]

The music is composed by Girishh G.[6]

Release and reception

Mookuthi Amman was scheduled to release in May 2020,[9] but postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[10]
