Monster Nationals
Monster Nationals is the name of a monster truck series. The series primarily consists of racing and freestyle events. The series runs indoor arena shows during the winter season and outdoor shows at fairgrounds and racetracks during the summer. The arena events typically use a simple track of two parallel sets of junk cars on an empty concrete floor, similar to those of the now-defunct USHRA Thunder Nationals series; George Eisenhart Jr., the founder of the Monster Nationals, was the former director of that series.
Trucks that have run in the series include Bigfoot, Big Dawg, Tailgator, Lil' Miss Dangerous, Nitemare, Raminator, and Rammunition.
In January 2009, tour founder Eisenhart was accidentally run over and killed at an event in Madison, Wisconsin, after stepping out from the safety tunnel in front of the monster truck Samson after a race had concluded. It was deemed as a "freak accident". The tour was purchased by Family Events the following fall. A few years later, Family Events was purchased by the Bonnier Corporation, which continues to operate the tour primarily as the same small-arena, concrete-floor based events as before with only select outdoor events. In recent years, trucks have included Predator, Heavy Hitter, and several trucks from the Bigfoot stable.
