Tracking of BlackLivesMatter Protesters

During the George Floyd protests, Mobilewalla tracked thousands of protesters using an advertising feature known as 'real-time-bidding' or RTB. The firm collected location data, IP addresses, device information and other information from ad companies to compile a profile of individual users, including racial background. In response, members of Congress penned a letter to the FTC to investigate Mobilewalla and other companies that had engaged in such practices. [2] It is unclear if Mobilewalla used that information for commercial purposes or turned that data over to law enforcement authorities.
