History
The building, which was designed by Robert Masters Chart in the Victorian style, was opened in May 1887.[1] The building was established as the vestry hall for the local parish before becoming the council offices for Mitcham Urban District Council in 1915; it then became "Mitcham Town Hall" after the building had been enlarged to accommodate the headquarters of the new Municipal Borough of Mitcham in 1934.[2] It ceased to be the local seat of government when the enlarged London Borough of Merton was formed in 1965[3] and became a community centre known as the "Vestry Hall".[4]

gollark: I don't think so, anyway. Obviously I'm not an actual lawyer.
gollark: Well, you can't say "yes this is under the GPL" but also "by the way you also can't do these things which the GPL lets you do".
