Mirko Guerrini

Mirko Guerrini (born 28 April 1973, in Florence) is an Italian-Australian jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger.

Biography

Guerrini studied piano at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence, before changing his focus to the saxophone. He studied both as a classical and jazz musician with teachers such as Mauro Grossi and Dave Liebman.

He soon began collaborating with Stefano Bollani and also with international musicians such as Billy Cobham and Mark Feldman.

Together with Bollani, Guerrini was a founding member of "I Visionari" together with Nico Gori on clarinet, drummer Cristiano Calcagnile and bassist Ferruccio Spinetti. The quintet released a double album I Visionari (2006).

Guerrini also created the radio series "Il Dottor Djembè" for Radio3, together with Stefano Bollani and David Riondino, from 2006 until 2012.[1] Guerrini also composed numerous jingles for Radio3 at this time.

Alongside performing, he started working in conducting, both in Italy and elsewhere.[2] In around 2012 he moved to Australia full time, where he teaches at the Zelman Cowan School of Music at Monash University.[3]

In Australia, he regularly performs with jazz musicians such as Paul Grabowsky and Niko Schäuble.
