Early life

Miles Stroth was born in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where he played high-school basketball.[2]

Career

Stroth began studying improvisation in the fall of 1989 at The Second City in Chicago. In 1991, Stroth began studying long-form improvisation with Del Close and Charna Halpern at what was then called Improv Olympic, now the iO Theater in Chicago. Stroth has taught, performed and directed at iO ever since.

Stroth was a member of seminal improv team The Family, whose members included Matt Besser, Ali Farahnakian, Neil Flynn, Adam McKay and Ian Roberts. The Family, directed by Del Close, created improv forms called the Deconstruction and the Movie. Stroth worked with Close for eight years.[3]

Stroth has performed in more than 1,000 long-form shows, and has created or had a hand in creating many improv forms that are performed around the country today. Among them are the Armando, the Deconstruction, the Movie, and La Ronde. Some of the improv teams and shows of which Stroth has been a part include The Three Mad Rituals, Dynamite Fun Nest, The Armando Diaz Theatrical Experience, Zumpf, ASSSSCAT, Heather and Miles and Mud.

Stroth's theatrical credits include The Eight Reindeer Monologues, Hamlet: the Musical, and Little with The Actors' Gang in Los Angeles. Stroth was the national touring alternate for Robert Dubac’s one-person show, The Male Intellect: an Oxymoron. He has appeared on Comedy Central’s Crossballs and Reno 911!.[4]

Currently, Stroth performs on Wednesdays at the Pack Theater, an improv theater in LA he founded.[5] He is heard weekly on the Pack Theater Improv Podcast, and blogs at the Pack Theater Improv Blog.
