Mickey Mehta

Mickey Mehta (born 29 August 1962) is an Indian holistic health, well-being, wellness, and fitness guru.[1][2] He is a TV and radio presenter (94.3 Radio One Mumbai and Delhi) and a columnist in various publications and websites.[3][4][5][6] He preaches the concept of holistic health and equipment free workouts and has done so by establishing a chain of Mickey Mehta Wellness Temples across Mumbai city.[7] The media often refer to Mickey Mehta as 'India's Leading Holistic Health Guru'. Mehta also aspires to build the largest social media base across as many platforms possible, to reach out to his audience.[8][9] Mehta launches Yo workouts and Wellfie along with the Times of India at Marine Drive at the event of Yoga By The Bay.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]

Personal life

Mehta is from a middle-class Parsi family. His father and mother worked as a banker and secretary respectively and resided at Grant Road, Mumbai.[23] He graduated from Bhonsala Military School at Nashik, Maharashtra, India[24] and barely attended college due to his inclination towards the wellness and wellbeing segment. Mehta continues to coach his clients with regards to overall wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle.[2][25]

Career

He began his career as a black-belt martial arts instructor in 1983[29][30][31][32] and simultaneously worked as a personal trainer and a door-to-door masseur. His next recruitment was in 1984 at Ramada Plaza Palm Grove, a property of Ramada International chain of hotels[33] as a health club manager, followed by his employment at The Holiday Inn, Muscat-Al Madinah, Oman with a similar job profile. Thereafter, he returned to Mumbai to become a health club manager for The Oberoi Trident at Nariman Point, where he worked for five years. He started his solo career in 1993 and launched the 'Learn Swimming in 24 hours' programme which received press coverage and found its way to The Limca Book of World Records – 1995.[34][35] He moved on to practice holistic health and wellbeing, contributing to publications such as The Times of India Group,[36] Mid Day,[37] The Asian Age,[38][39] GQ,[40][41][42] Afternoon DC[43] and Savvy (women's magazine).[44] He was featured in the Smart People Magazine where he spoke about holistic health and wellness representing the 'World Health Day'.[45] In 1993, he was assigned to serve as a coach for Femina Miss India[46] and also started off as a wellness coach for media barons, the Bollywood industry and industrialists.[47] In 2003 he inaugurated Mickey Mehta’s 360 degree Gyms which are promoted as wellness temples. The first branch was established at Hughes Road, Mumbai, in April 2003.[48] The brand later expanded to 12 wellness temples that include facilities such as swimming and equipment-free training such as yoga, breathing exercises, meditation, chanting, boot camp, calisthenics, aerobics, agility drills and lifestyle counselling.[7] Mehta's centres are known for providing a discount that is equal to his age during August and September every year. The seasonal offer is always promoted as 'Mickey Mehta's Birthday Offer'.[49][50] He started his online website in 2009[51] and contributed his work to The Times of India – Times wellness in the form of DVDs.[52] He has contributed his work on Radio Mirchi, Radio City, Radio One (India) and Red FM 93.5.[53][54][55] and has also offered advice in discussions forums on websites such as MSN and idiva.com.[29] Mehta is an author of the book Garbaghyan, which he compiled in association with the National Association for the Blind.[56][57][58] The term Mickeymize your Life has become popular amongst his followers as this term is used as a motivational and inspirational term by all his personal trainers across his centres and has now become popular by the media.[59] He partners with the DNA iCan Marathon event every year as a wellness partner through which he motivates and mentors all participants.[60] Mickey Mehta was a brand ambassador for the German fitness equipment Company Milon for one year. The equipment was used by Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor during the making of the Bollywood movie Bodyguard.[61][62] He is currently producing a documentary film on Gandhiji's life and his inclination towards healing with naturopathy. The short documentary will be titled Gandhi- The Healer.[63] The film explores Gandhi's life as a healer. For the film, Mehta interviewed many experts, historians, and spiritual gurus, for their inputs. The film was slated to release on 2 October, Gandhiji's birth anniversary.[63][64][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74] Mehta is yet in the process of publishing more of his work going forward. Mehta trained the Mumbai police at Marine Drive along with commissioner of Mumbai police Jawed Ahmed followed by former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan, Tara Sharma, Rashmi Nigam and I love Mumbai's Shaina NC. Heal the World Initiative

2011

He launched Heal the World Initiative on 24 August 2011. Established by Mickey Mehta to highlight public focus towards social contribution, the initiative was launched with a tag line 'Each One to Reach One'. On 3 October 2011, the initiative commenced with an attempt to empower the destitute, where Mickey Mehta initiated a training course for the women at the NGO SMILE, to help them become Yoga Instructors, so that they would be able to support their families monetarily.[78]

2012

On 23 November 2012, one of the key initiatives undertaken by Mehta involved the training of Mumbai's police. The police officers of Mumbai city began to be trained with psychological counselling, diet education and tips on exercise and yoga. The initiative exhibits no monetary interest and is an ongoing initiative till date.[79]

2013

On 12 February 2013, Mehta launched a braille book with wellness tips for pregnant and lactating women. The book was launched in collaboration with the Director of National Association for the Blind and was titled Swasthya Aur Aarogya.[80]

2014

On 15 February 2014, Mehta along with dress designer Maheka Mirpuri launched the MCan, a charitable foundation at the Tata Memorial hospital (TMH) for providing financial assistance to the underprivileged towards cure for cancer.[81] Mickey Mehta initiated the launch of a dedicated health department called Wellness Temple at the Masina Hospital in Byculla (Mumbai) for the benefit of its patients. The launch took place on 5 June 2014.[82]

2015

2016

Alter your destiny blogs Mickey Mehta via The Speaking Tree .[83] On 3 April 2016, Mehta along with actress Anita Raj extended their support for World Autism Awareness Campaign month and to respect that, Khushi, a pediatric therapy center located in Mumbai, held Cause-a-thon, a special 7-kilometer and 1-kilometre marathon at Taj Lands End.[84] Pepsico launched 7 UP Revive along with Mickey Mehta at Hyderabad, India.[85][86][87] Mehta along with Gymtrekker announced the second-biggest fitness party at Radio Bar Khar on 3 April 2016.[88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97][98] [99][100][101]

2019

On 22 February 2019, Mehta spoke about healthy living and connecting with outside world. He spoke on the event WOW (Women of Worth) event organised by Outlook Business Magazine to facilitate women entrepreneur from Eastern India. He emphasised on self love, me too time and self nourishment..[102]
