Taxonomy

The species was first described by Olof Swartz in 1806 as Acrostichum nicotianifolium.[3] It has since been placed in several other genera, including Mickelia.[1] In 1995, Robbin C. Moran and Benjamin Øllgaard described a new species from Ecuador as Bolbitis riparia.[4] Under this name, it was considered to be endemic to Ecuador and threatened.[5] However, in 2010, Moran et al. treated Bolbitis riparia as a synonym of Mickelia nicotianifolia,[6] a widespread species.[1]

gollark: Why?
gollark: The main issue with the self-assessed-value-based patent tax thing is that people who independently come up with an extremely good idea may not be able to secure enough funding to keep hold of it for a while. But I'm not sure how common that is.
