Michael Rainey Jr.

Michael Rainey Jr. (born September 22, 2000) is an American actor. He is known for his role as Tariq St. Patrick on the Starz series Power, a role he will reprise in the spin-off series Power Book II: Ghost.[2][3]

Early life

The actor was born in 2000 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Michael Rainey Sr (whom the actor is named after) and Shauna Small. Michael Rainey Jr was raised in Staten Island, New York. He has Jamaican roots because his mother is Jamaican by birth.[4]

Upcoming projects

Rainey is going to play the lead role in Power Book II: Ghost, which is an upcoming American drama series developed by Courtney A. Kemp. The series is a spinoff of the long-running series, Power. Power Book II: Ghost will pick up the narrative just days after the Power finale. The sequel then follows Rainey's character, Tariq, navigating his new life, in which his desire to shed his father's legacy comes up against the mounting pressure to save his family."[5]

Rainey was nominated in the category "Outstanding Performance by a Youth" (Series, Special, Television Movie or Limited Series) at the 49th NAACP Image Awards.[7] The actor was also nominated at the NAMIC Vision Awards, 2018 for "Best Performance – Drama"[8]
