Michael Kelly (journalist)

Michael Kelly b. 1979 is an Irish-born newspaper editor and occasional broadcaster, who is currently editor of the weekly newspaper The Irish Catholic .[1] and a columnist with the Irish Independent.

Kelly is from Omagh, County Tyrone, and went to school at the non-selective St Patrick's High school, Omagh and then at Maynooth College where he studied for the priesthood.[2] He worked as a producer and redactor for Vatican Radio in Rome, and served as Rome correspondent for the Irish Catholic, he returned to Ireland in 2005, he was appointed deputy editor of the Irish Catholic in 2007.

In 2012 he was appointed Editor of the Irish Catholic in 2012, succeeding Garry O'Sullivan.[3] He regularly contributes on TV and radio on religious topics, including a regular slot on RTÉ Drivetime. Other broadcasters for which he has contributed to include BBC, UTV, CNN and Al Jazeera.[4] He has made contributions to many other publications such as international media National Catholic Reporter,[5] Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic World Report[6] Catholic Herald[7] as well as Irish Newspapers including the Irish Independent, Irish Examiner and The Irish News.[4]

Nothing is known of his private life.
