History
The decoration was created by the United States Maritime Administration on July 24, 1956.[1]
Conditions
The decoration is awarded to officers and men for service aboard merchant vessels flying the American flag in waters adjacent to Korea between June 30, 1950 and September 30, 1953, during the Korean War.
Prior to 1992, the Merchant Marine Korean Service Medal was a ribbon-only decoration. Later, a medal was affixed to the ribbon. The following is a design note: "the torii gate and taeguk are traditionally associated with Korea. The ship's chain alludes to maritime service."[2]
gollark: There are 129057189471894718247141491807401825701892912 random details and things but that's the gist of it.
gollark: Then, you just move it a little bit toward lower loss (gradient descent).
gollark: You have a big thing of settable parameters determining how you go from input to output. And if you know what the result *should* be (on training data), then as the maths is all "differentiable", you can differentiate it and get the gradient of loss wrt. all the parameters.
gollark: Well, you put your data into something something linear algebra and something something gradient descent, and answers come out.
gollark: I see. This might be one of the ones which can't boot from those, or you just beeized slightly.
