Career

Born in Dundee, Holden played for the youth team of Preston North End, and made his senior debut in 1972. He later played for Sunderland and Blackpool, before moving to the Netherlands to play with PEC Zwolle.[1][2]

Later life and death

Holden died of motor neurone disease in early 1981, aged 26; the illness had forced his retirement from playing some two years previously. After his death, Preston player Peter Litchfield donated £1,000 he had received for winning a Man of the Match award to a motor neurone charity.[3]

gollark: Oh, another bot has this.
gollark: HUh?
gollark: Basically:- someone configures a channel as the "phone channel"- people can then dial that, or you can dial to other ones in it- if the other end accepts, a call is set up and messages are relayed between each channel until you hang up
gollark: You can use the very cool™ and useful™ feature of my Discord bot where you can open temporary "calls" to channels on other (participating) servers.
gollark: They are both Lua, essentially, but with different versions and APIs.
