Early life

Matthew Healy was born in Manchester, England, and grew up with his younger brother Louis Healy. His parents are Denise Welch, who is a soap opera actress best known for her role in Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street, and known television actor Tim Healy, who was best known for his role as Dennis Patterson in the comedy-drama series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. His father would play drums with him around four years old, which is when he started to have a liking for music.

Matthew attended Wilmslow High School, where he met his band members George Daniel, Ross MacDonald, and Adam Hann in 2004. They began covering pop and punk songs before they eventually started writing their own music together. The band went through several names such as "Drive Like I do" which was going to be an upcoming album until the name was changed to "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships", "Me and You Versus Them", "Talkhouse" and more until they eventually settled on "The 1975". When the band first started off, Matthew Healy admitted that it was hard starting off as a band based in Manchester[1] since there are a lot of bands around. They eventually released their first studio album which kick started their careers.

gollark: You have to have *some* encoding step to translate your data into radio signals.
