Geography
Markman is located on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth's metropolitan area approximately 21 km north of its city centre.[3]
Bordering communities include Motherwell to the south-west and Wells Estate to the south-east. Further but nearby communities including St Georges Strand and Coega.[4]
Overview
Markman is an older industrial park in Port Elizabeth zoned for heavy industrial use. Over the past few years, it has gained popularity due to its location near the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) and the Port of Ngqura.[5]
Industries
Most companies operating in Markman are logistical, automotive and manufacturing/processing companies. Notable logistical companies such as Value Logistics, Freightpak (subsidiary of Value Logistics) and Imperial Logistics operate there. Another notable building or company operating in Markman is Isuzu's vehicle conversion and distribution centre which was previously owned by General Motors before they South Africa in 2017.[6][7][8][9]
Road Access
The R335 (St Georges Street) is the main road passing through Markman. The R335 connects to Motherwell, Addo and Somerset East in the west and Wells Estate and the N2 highway west of St Georges Strand.
The N2 highway which is an essential highway connects further to Makhanda and East London to the north and Port Elizabeth and Cape Town to the south.
Other roads in Markman are the R102 to Swartkops, Deal Party (another industrial park) and Port Elizabeth's city centre and the M17 to Motherwell, Swartkops and Ibhayi.
