Life and career
Born in Erlangen, Germany, Marcel Vaid's father is of Punjabi origin from India. He studied guitar at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Zürich. Besides his work as a composer and music producer for theatre, he composes and produces film music for fiction and documentary films. Vaid is also the head of the electro-acoustic experimental collective Superterz. Among others, he collaborated with Sophie Hunger, Nils Petter Molvær, Fredi Murer, Lauren Newton, Marianne Schroeder and Damo Suzuki.[1]
Vaid produces music mainly for German-language films, but also for international productions, among them Wake Up Running: A Story of Losers. Feature-length films he served as a composer for include the 2015 documentary Als die Sonne vom Himmel fiel (The Day the Sun Fel) by the Swiss-Japanese filmmaker Aya Domenig,[2] the 2015 Swiss comedy Usfahrt Oerlike starring Jörg Schneider and Mathias Gnädinger,[3] the 2008 Swiss-Austrian-German comedy Tandoori Love, and the 2004 Swiss television film Das Paar im Kahn.
