Maraland
Maraland is a region in the South-Eastern part of Mizoram state, signifying the Mara people inhabited area. The region is one of the three Autonomous District Councils within Mizoram state of India. The Mara Autonomous District Council government is headed by Chief Executive Member, currently by Puhpa N.Zakhai, a veteran Congress politician. Maraland is not to be coined with political name nor district or any other territorial name, but rather it signifies the area occupied by Mara people as their homeland.
Religion
All ethnic Maras are Christian, mostly Evangelical. With the arrival of Rev. & Mrs. Reginald Arthur Lorrain in 1907 who had had earlier founded Lakher Pioneer Mission in Penge, south London in 1905, within a decade Maras had all accepted Christianity. Because the missionaries were of Congregational origin, they didn't affiliate the newly founded Church in Maraland with any outside Church. The current Evangelical Church of Maraland, India and Mara Evangelical Church, Myanmar were one before India partition. The major religious denomination in Maraland are Evangelical Church of Maraland(ECM), Congregational Church of India (Maraland), Lairam Isua Krista Baptist Kohhran (LIKBK), Salvation Army, Presbyterian Church of India, Baptist Church of Mizoram, United Pentecostal Church, Seventh Day Adventist, Isua Krista Kohhran etc.
