Mappila (disambiguation)

Mappila, formerly anglicised as Moplah, typically refers to a member of a Muslim community in Kerala, India.

The word Mappila is still in common use to refer to Syrian Christians in parts of southern Kerala, including as a name suffix.[1] The term Mappila is also in use in Malayalam in north Kerala to mean "bridegroom" or "son-in-law".

Historically, this name was commonly used to refer to all Middle Eastern-origin immigrant communities of Kerala, including Syrian Christians and Jews.[1]
