Maple Street Bridge (Spokane)
The Maple Street Bridge is a girder bridge in Spokane, Washington that spans Kendall Yards to Peaceful Valley.[1] Along with the Monroe Street Bridge (Spokane River), the Maple Street Bridge is one of several major bridges in Spokane that crosses the Spokane River.[2] The bridge is 1,719.2 feet (512.01 meters) long, stands 125 feet (38.1 meters) above the Spokane River, and has a deck that is 50 feet (15.24 meters) wide.[1] The bridge offers two lane traffic and a caged pedestrian walkway.As of 2015, the Maple Street Bridge has an average daily traffic of 40,600 vehicles. History
The Maple Street Bridge began construction in 1956 and opened on July 1, 1958.[3] The bridge cost 6 million dollars to construct.[4] It required a ten-cent toll from 1958 to 1981. The toll was raised to 25 cents from 1981 to 1990. In 1990 the toll was removed.[3]
Accidents
In 2008 a teen died by accidentally falling from the Maple Street Bridge.[5]
