Mahdi Mohammed Gulaid
Mahdi Mohammed Gulaid "Khadar" (Somali: Mahdi Maxamed Guleed "Khadar", Arabic: مهدي محمد جوليد خضر) is the Acting Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the former Deputy Prime Minister from 21 March 2017 to 25 July 2020.[2]

Career
Early career
Prior to taking office, he practised law in Somaliland and has worked with the second Electoral Commission of Somaliland as legal advisor.[3][4]
Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia
Gulaid was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia in March 2017 by then Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire. Since holding this office, the Deputy Prime Minister has helped set Somalia’s national and developmental agendas, and manages a wide portfolio of governmental priorities. On a weekly basis, Gulaid oversaw the cabinet and chairs a range of committees at the ministerial level, particularly in the economic and social sectors. He also chaired sessions of the Somalia Development and Reconstruction Facility, a vital platform that enables government and development partners to provide strategic guidance and oversight for development activities in Somalia.[5]
As a Deputy Prime Minister, Gulaid also chaired Strand 4 of Somalia’s National Security Architecture including the prevention and countering of violent extremism.[6] Most recently, he co-chaired the Somalia Partnership Forum in Brussels which concluded with resounding success.[7]
Acting Prime Minister of Somalia
President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed appointed Mahdi Mohammed Gulaid as the Acting Prime Minister on the 25th of July 2020 following the House of the People's motion of no confidence against the government of Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre.[8]
