Madeira (the Portuguese word for wood), officially named the Autonomous Region of Madeira (Região Autónoma da Madeira), is one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal (along with the Azores); it is an archipelago situated in the north Atlantic Ocean, southwest of Portugal.
