Trajano was born in Franca, in the state of São Paulo. She graduated in law from the Faculdade de Direito de Franca in 1972. Her uncle and aunt, Pelegrino José Donato and Luiza Trajano Donato had a retail store in Franca, named Magazine Luiza.[4] She worked on the firm through several sectors, such as collection and sales, before becoming the company's director-superintendent, in 1991.[5] Under her command, Magazine Luiza became a chain of more than 800 stores, spread into 16 Brazilian states.[6]

Trajano also leads Grupo Mulheres do Brasil (Women of Brazil Group), formed in 2012 by 50 Brazilian women entrepreneurs. Today, they are more than 4,000 and meet every month to discuss and propose actions related to education, entrepreneurship, social projects and gender equality in the workforce, supporting quotas for women.[4][7]
