Troisi grew up in Regent Park and lives in Cabbagetown.[2]
At the time of her appointment to council, Troisi was executive director of the Cabbagetown Youth Centre.[3] She previously served as a manager in the city's parks, forestry and recreation division from 1996 to 2005.[4]
She won the appointment on the second ballot, in a council vote that split along ideological lines between conservative (primarily suburban) councillors who favoured Troisi, and progressive (primarily 'downtown') councillors who favoured activist and McConnell staffer Michael Creek.[1]
When appointed, Troisi said she would not run in the 2018 Toronto municipal election. She later changed her mind and ran in Toronto Centre Ward 13 against Kristyn Wong-Tam, another incumbent as a result of the decision by the provincial government to reduce the number of wards. Troisi placed third behind Wong-Tam and former MPP George Smitherman.[5]
