Lucky in Love (song)

"Lucky in Love" is a song written by Roxanne Seeman and Daniel Nitt. It is the end credit theme song to the 2010 Hong Kong film Crossing Hennessy. It was recorded by Jacky Cheung in Cantonese, included on his Private Corner album, released on January 29, 2010. An original English version was released by Paolo Onesa as part of The Voice of the Philippines TV singing competition on September 13, 2013.

Jacky Cheung version

Jacky Cheung is a Hong Kong singer-songwriter and actor. He is regarded as one of the "Four Heavenly Kings" of Hong Kong.[1]

In 1999, he was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World by JCI (Junior Chamber International), a worldwide federation of young professionals and entrepreneurs. In 2000 he was awarded by RTHK, the Golden Needle Award.[2] This award, the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award, recognized outstanding contributions to the music industry.

Composition

"不只有緣 (Lucky in Love)" was written by Roxanne Seeman with Daniel Nitt for Jacky Cheung's "Private Corner" canto-jazz album, by the request of producer Andrew Tuason for Jacky Cheung. Seeman and Nitt composed and recorded the demo of the song over the internet between Los Angeles and Berlin. Cheung requested a revision of the rhythm of the melody and the chords of the original song arrangement. Cheung's recording repeated the intro as an outro.

"不只有緣 (Lucky in Love)" by Jacky Cheung appears over the end-credits of Crossing Hennessy, a Hong Kong movie produced by William Kong. "Crossing Hennessy", starring Tang Wei (Lust, Caution (film)) and Jacky Cheung. "Crossing Hennessy" premiered as the opening night film for the 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival March 21.[3]

Paolo Onesa version

An original English version of "不只有緣 (Lucky In Love)" was recorded by Paolo Onesa, Top 8 contestant from the first season of The Voice of the Philippines. It was released digitally as a single on September 23, 2013 by MCA Music, as part of The Voice of The Philippines compilation album. Onesa went on to include the song along with "Which Way, Robert Frost?" on his debut album, Pop Goes Standards, released February 14, 2014.[4]

The song was included in Paolo’s debut album Pop Goes Standards. It was also a bonus track on The Voice of the Philippines The Final 4 album released by MCA Music.[5][6]

Critical reception

Paolo Onesa was awarded twice at the 2014 AWIT awards, for Best Performance by A Male Recording Artist and Best Performance by A New Male Recording Artist, both for the song "Lucky In Love." The AWIT Awards, equivalent of the Grammy Award in The Philippines, occurred on December 12, 2014.
