History

Lucali was a former candy store called Louie's Candy Store that Iacono frequented in his youth. After Louie died his wife Rosemary put the place up for rent. Iacono rented space and opened the pizzeria in 2006. He had no experience making pizza prior to opening the restaurant. The pizza has been described "thin and chewy, but holds its shape under layers of velvety tomato sauce and three types of cheese". Lucali is known to put basil on top of their pizza.[3] Patrons may often wait up to two hours for a seat at the restaurant.

According to Thrillist, Lucali has been listed as one of the greatest pizzerias in Brooklyn.[4] In 2013, Lucali expanded to Miami Beach in South Florida.[5]
