History
Proposals for a third Legoland location in the United States began in 2016, with Merlin Entertainments proposing to construct a resort in the town of Goshen, New York due to its close proximity to New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia.[1] On October 19, 2017, the Town of Goshen approved plans for the park and six days later on October 25, 2017, Merlin Entertainments officially announced Legoland New York, a 520-acre theme park and 250-room Legoland hotel.[2][3][4] Construction started soon afterward. In late 2019, it was announced that the resort was scheduled to open on July 4, 2020, to coincide with Independence Day.[5] However, following the COVID-19 pandemic in New York in 2020, construction on the project was halted, and a new opening time period of early 2021 was announced.[6][7][8]
Park layout and attractions
The park will include seven themed areas commonly found at existing Legoland parks. [9] There will be 50 attractions and over 30 million Lego bricks in the park.[10] The park itself will cover over 150 acres (61 ha)[11][12] and will be the world's largest Legoland park upon opening.[13]
