Lecomte Stakes

The Lecomte Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race held at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a 1 1/16-mile Grade III Stakes race for three-year-old horses.[1] It has also been raced at a mile and at a mile and 70 yards. It currently offers a purse of $200,000, and is normally run in mid-January. Trainers use it as a prep race for the Louisiana Derby, and potentially the Kentucky Derby.

The race is named in honor of one of the great Boston's best sons, Lecomte, who is known as the only horse to defeat Lexington.[2] Lecomte's dam was the brilliant Reel.

In 2006, the race had to be canceled as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

gollark: I HAVE acquired games.
gollark: If you want long timescales or detailed predictions then weather prediction is really hard, but the simple rule of "low pressure means problems" is fairly accurate because something something air from other places moves in.
gollark: No dubious "chaos theory" involved.
gollark: This sounds basically right.
gollark: It's not a butterfly effect thing?
