Lechwe Secondary School

Lechwe School is located in Kitwe, Zambia.

History

Lechwe was founded by Neil Molver and started with four pupils in July 1977 but only officially begun that September. Classes were held in the Church of Nazarene and an Evangelical church. By January 1978 the numbers had grown significantly, needing an additional Hindu Hall for classes. In May 1978 the schools current location was adopted. It consisted of an administration block and eight classrooms.

Lechwe remained a primary school until 1992 when the first form one (8th grade) class was started. In 1997 the first A level class graduated from the school. The school continued its growth on the copperbelt and it flourished along with the mines. At the turn of the millennium the price of copper on the world market dropped and caused a decline in numbers at the school.

Extracurricular activities

Music and art classes are taken from reception (kindergarten) and through the secondary school years. Over the course of the three terms the students can participate in swimming, volleyball, netball, soccer, rugby, basketball, cricket, rounders, track and field as well as a lot of other mini games. Ellen Hight , a student, represented Zambia at the 2000 Summer Olympics and in July 2002 Andre and Ursula Kuenzli represented Zambia in the Commonwealth Games in England.

gollark: Because enderium's crazily expensive.
gollark: Terrible idea #1267: a reactor which uses only active enderium cooling.
gollark: What you can do, at least, is add quartz coolers and enderium coolers and stuff in the gaps.
gollark: i.e. copper coolers won't work with active glowstone beside them.
