History

The firm opened in 1873 by Gardiner Lathrop and William Smith.[2] In 1876, it began representing the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad and continued to handle its current BNSF Railway incarnation in thousands of cases over the years.[3]

In 1996, the firm (then Lathrop & Norquist) merged with Gage & Tucker, which was formed in 1930 by future Kansas City mayor John B. Gage.

In January 2020, the firm combined with Gray Plant Mooty to form Lathrop GPM LLP.[4]

Offices

The firm had its headquarters at 2345 Grand in Kansas City near Union Station. Other offices were in Boston, Boulder, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Jefferson City, Los Angeles, Overland Park, and St. Louis.[5]
