History

Lack Brothers was started by William & George Lack in Walthamstow, England in 1898 as a drapery business, with the Lack family being involved with the linen business since the 18th Century.[1]

The business grew with the opening of a new store in Thornton Heath High Street in 1960. Croydon was the town from where the brothers had grown up. The new store boasted a restaurant and a men's hairdressers. By 1927 the business had been incorporated and had expanded into neighbouring properties. It now occupied 115-123 High Street, Thornton Heath.[1]

During the 1930s the business boomed, however none of William Lack's son wanted to take over the family business, and upon his retirement in 1937 the store closed.[1]
